Indigenous Boys Matter Too (IBMT)

The Indigenous Boys Matter Too! Program (IBMT) is a non-therapeutic wellness program that utilizes cultural teachings, journaling, sharing circles, community building and artistic expression to understand the historic, interpersonal and intergenerational traumas and barriers we may experience as Indigenous Male's. Through ceremony, culture and group sessions, participants will work towards understanding what healthy Indigenous masculinity means, as well as creating healthy behaviors that will lead them towards employment, educational and personal success. Kinship, community and connection are central elements of our programming.

We have a new additional piece added to our IBMT program and it is the youth wellness suicide prevention program. The youth wellness worker will work closely with the IBMT participants. 1 on 1 will be more available for the participants seeking extra resources and help. A therapist is now available as well for any of the IBMT participants. A form will need to be signed by both parents and guardians when doing an intake with IBMT coordinator (Youth Wellness Worker)

People who succeed in IBMT! Programming, are people who are not forced to be at the program. People who have an interest in culture and ceremony and are willing to share and speak about their lives.

We encourage all Indigenous youth to attend, even if you are not Nehiyaw. Dene, Metis, Blackfoot, nakoda, anishnaabe, lakota, dakota, Inuit etc... The intention is to understand core aspects of wellness that are grounded in our connection to ceremony, mother earth and reclaiming our traditional way of being, to the best of our abilities. If a youth and family are from a different background and are searching for specific teachings further connections and conversations can be made.

The four main goals of the IBMT! Program is to:

1.  To help participating boys develop an understanding of root causes of their life challenges and plan for healthy life choices.

2.  To assist Participating Indigenous Boys to develop self-pride, self-esteem, and self-confidence.

3.  To assist Indigenous boys to develop positive and healthy relationships, in their personal lives and for schooling and employment
